This week I have been looking for inspirations for the design of my antagonist, and finishing up my protagonist model sheets. I have also begun sketching and drawing my final model sheet with the protagonist and the antagonist.
I have taken inspiration from different characters, such as Nintendo's King K. Rool and King Dedede. I have also looked at Asgore from Undertale for further inspiration, as well as different rpg-esque slimes to base the design off.
My final design below
I have combined the regal colours of red, purple and gold with the inspiration of other notable villains with the same themes and created my antagonist: King Slimus.
As previously mentioned I also began sketching my background and model sheet.
It depicts the protagonist and antagonist, as well as other slime characters, battling atop a tower. I will begin to add line art and colour to experiment with lighting and such.
I found these processes to be very satisfying in the end, but they took a lot of time. I feel I could improve in body proportion consistency as well as perspective.
In the time frame of the past week I have been working on my character designs and working to improve upon them.
I began by sketching some ideas for a knight-themed character in my sketchbook.
I then began finalising my idea and began sketching what I wanted the character to look like, as seen below.
After coming up with the sketches for this character I started completing the line art for a t-pose turnaround and dynamic poses.
After working on the contours I started to colour the character in while making a few adjustments to the character's appearance.
My main inspiration and reference for this character is Samus Aran and Dark Samus from Metroid, as well as other designs for knight armour.
I found this process to be very time consuming, but definitely worth the time. I found that some colours worked better with other specific colours and tried to create the character from basic shapes, e.g a rectangle. I believe I could heavily improve on the body perspectives and the line art, however I think I have made a big improvement from last time.
For this study task I have created a power point presentation which delves into details about the adventure genre. I have gone into quite some depth about the genre itself and how it's been used and how it's currently being used today.
Plenty of research went into the creation of this power point. In my search, I found different archetypes and tropes commonly used in adventure narratives, which I shall keep in mind when creating my own animation based on this genre.
Kamikaze Douga is an independent Japanese company that usually create animated shorts. Their style is quite unique, combining 3D CGI production with 2D cel shaded animation. They are quite famous for their openings for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 1 - 3, with colourful and flashy animation alongside memorable musical pieces such as 'Bloody Steam' by Coda.
I have chosen to include this studio into my blog because i feel that they are quite underexposed for their incredible art style and animation.
Gainax studios in another Japanese animation studio. They were most famously responsible for animating the anime adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as my personal favourite, Gurren Lagann However, the company later disbanded, leading to the creation of Studio Trigger, compiled of the previous members of Gainax. Studio Trigger is notable for their works such as Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia. They have also been included in Western animation, a big example being a fight sequence in The Amazing World of Gumball.
I've chosen this animation practitioner because I really admire the creativity and flare that goes into their animations, and I'm a big fan of their art style and use of exaggeration in their animations.
Studio Yotta is a full-service animation study primarily based on 2D digital animation. They have been involved in different projects for different companies and producers, such as Star Bomb, Adult Swim and SEGA.
I chose this animation practitioner because I adore how colourful their animations usually are, and appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into making their animations charming and likeable.
SiLee films is an animation, graphic design and illustrator studio that focuses primarily on 2D animation and artworks. They have been included in projects such as Alter Bridge's 'Cry of Achilles' Animated music video.
I chose this animation practitioner because I really like the designs and art styles that they use, especially in their Cry of Achilles music video.
5. Madhouse
Madhouse Studios is a very talented Japanese based animation studio that have helped in the creation of different OVA's, Openings and Anime Shows. They have been involved in series such as One Punch Man and Death Note.
I have chosen this animation practitioner because I find their highly exaggerated and sometimes incredibly vivid and flowing animations to be quite the spectacle to watch.
Passion Animation Studios is a company that has worked on many different mediums of animated content, such as trailers, music videos. They worked on various Gorillaz music videos as well as animated shorts for the video game League of Legends.
I have chosen this animation practitioner because I believe many of there works are underexposed and should be seen by many more people.
I chose this animated PSA because I think the stop motion animation and the ridiculousness of the situation compliment each other greatly to create a memorable animated public service announcement.
Drinking And Driving
I chose this animated PSA because I feel it was a very serious tone and gets its message across very effectively through simple animation.
Disability
I chose this animated PSA because it seems to target a single audience of children with disabilities, as well as make others aware of the disabilities of others through very simple and almost 'child like' animation.
"Prevention" Anti-drug PSA (1982)
I chose this aniamted PSA because I like the art style and "retro" animation used to display their message of anti-drugs.
Star Trek: Keep America Beautiful
I chose this animated PSA because I am personally a fan of Star Trek and like the style of cel animation used in this video.
Sonic Sez - Alcohol
I've chosen this animated PSA because I adore the charm and effort that has gone into making a PSA for alcohol consumption, steering kids away from it in a goofy and light-hearted way.
Wally Bear and the NO! Gang (NES)
I chose this video game because it counts as a PSA, as you play through the game you are greeted with anti-drug dialogue and images.
Climate Change PSA
I chose this animated PSA because, similar to previous ones, it warns of the dangers of climate change in an easy to watch and enjoyable way.
Old Fridges Can Kill
I chose this PSA due to it's very unique topic and weird yet interesting art styles that it uses to convey its message.
Smokey Bear - Forest Fires
I chose this PSA because I was attracted to the art style mainly. I was also engaged by the narrator's delivery on his lines.
In this study task we were instructed to use the process of triangulation in order to compare and contrast three different sources we previously mentioned in our past study tasks.
In writing this comparative 'essay' I found that it was quite easy to contrast all three sources against each other, as they all shared many elements of storytelling and inclusiveness through good writing and character descriptions and tropes. Despite this however, all sources seem very different in their topics, which I found interesting upon comparing all three together. They contrasted greatly despite their shared properties and debates.
I chose this animated documentary because LEGO is a very important part of my childhood, and so I wanted to learn more about its origins and how it came to be.
Genocide
I chose this animated documentary because it describes in great detail the horrors and war crimes committed against Poland during World War 2 and during the Cold War, accompanied by a detailed and gruesome animation.
Nowhere Line
I chose this animated documentary because I appreciate the animation that went into it, and I love the art style. While I don't wholly agree on some things this documentary presents, I do think it's very well made.
Of Stars and Men
I chose this animated documentary because of how contemporary the art style and animation feels. I also enjoy the message it's conveying.
Victory Through Air Power
I chose this animated documentary because I have always been very interested in aerial technology and planes, as well as the pioneering age of animation shown through this documentary.
Sinking of the Lusitania
I chose this animated documentary because it is widely believed to be one of the first ever animated documentaries, even one of the first ever documentaries ever to be published.
Richard Twice
I chose this animated documentary because it explores something I'm very interested in - Music. It describes how Richard Atkins progressed through his musical career through one incident after another.
Ungvár
I chose this animated documentary as it is not a contemporary documentary in that there is a narrator explaining what happened, rather that the visuals are being used to tell a story.
A Conversation with Haris
I chose this animated documentary for similar reasons as to why I chose "Nowhere Line", as it is a personal story of one refugee fleeing Bosnia during world war 2. I also chose it because of its interestingly made animation of hand cut-out objects and glass paintings.
German Shepherd
I chose this animated short documentary as it utilities rotoscoping techniques in order to tell a story about one jewish man's thoughts and feelings towards Germany and its people after being told stories by his holocaust-survivor mother.
In this study task we were instructed to find 10 different animation advertisements from 10 different countries.

Country - United Kingdom
I've chosen this animation because I really like the aesthetics and character designs of the animals, as well as the musical accompaniment that helps this advertisement hit home for many people, including myself.
Google - Project Sunroof
Country - USA
I've selected this animated advertisement because it's simple and gets the message across effectively, using different colours and visuals to explain why getting a sunroof is a good idea.
McDonald's
Country - Japan
I chose this advert because I think it has a lot of charm and heart put into it, and really displays how working in McDonald's can be useful and enjoyable, as well as eventful.
Christmas Lottery - #Justino
Country - Spain
I selected this advert because it moved me a lot while watching it, due to the music as well as the overall message and story. The animation is very smooth and fluid, making it easy to watch.
Costazul

I chose this advertisement because it seems to efficiently attract its target audience (children) with cute visuals and a catchy jingle.
Der Sieger and Das Wunder
Country - Germany
I chose this advertisement because I appreciate the pioneering era of animation. This advert was created in the 1920's, making it an extremely early animated advertisement.
Oasis Drink
Country - France
I have picked this commercial because of how crazy the animation as a whole is, with its bizarre looking 3d modeled characters based on fruits.
Heinz Beans
Country - Australia
I chose this animation because I really like the character design and how ridiculous the premise of the advert is.
Sonic Heroes McDonalds Games
Country - Pakistan
I chose this advert because of nostalgia, as I used to personally own a few of these sonic games. However, I also chose it to contrast with the other very well made animated commercials, as this one is quite mediocre and ridiculous.
The Witcher - Killing Monsters - Cinematic Trailer
Country - Poland
I chose this advert because it's of a game that has reached critical acclaim in recent years. The animation and 'realistic' art style of this advert makes it a memorable and effective commercial.
